Another celebrity breakup: Eva Longoria and Mark Sanchez split up.

“ Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria and her boyfriend, New York Jets football player Mark Sanchez had been together for about four months. Already the two have officially split up. Sources close to the celebrity couple cite differences in goals and lifestyles as the main reasons they broke up.

“Mark says he is really upset about the breakup with Eva. He is telling friends he tried everything he could to make her happy, and to make things work between them, but they live in very different worlds,” a person close to the situation told the New York Post.

“The problem was Mark is very focused on football, while Eva is a busy businesswoman. She lives in Los Angeles, is doing a lot of philanthropic and political work, and is developing a number of TV shows.”

Dating can be tricky. If you and your partner have vastly different career or life goals, it can be hard to get on the same page. One way to get on the same page with your partner is to discuss life goals and plans early in your dating relationship. If you decide your goals mesh, then great! If not, then you can either work to make them work or part ways if it’s something that impacts your interactions.
How do you think you and your partner are doing? Are you closer in agreement with your partner than Eva Longoria and her now ex-boyfriend Mark Sanchez were with their life and relationship goals? Share your thoughts below or connect on Facebook today.

Jennifer Love Hewitt is in another relationship. I kind of feel bad for pointing it out, but homegirl has been dating and “in love” more times than any other female celebrity since I started blogging back in 2006 (has it been that long!?). Anyhoo, JLove is dating her ‘The Client List’ co-star, Brian Hallisay, and has been for about six-eight months. (I have no pictures of the guy, but you can see him here)
Rumor has it Jennifer is “in love” and sources say they wouldn’t be surprised if the two settled down. (Sound familiar?) Okay, enough JLove bashing.

In Touch cam confirm that actress Jennifer Love Hewitt is dating her Client List co-star Brian Hallisay, who plays her husband on the show.

“She’s in love!” a pal of the couple shares with In Touch, adding that the two have quietly been seeing each other for eight months. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they settled down soon.”

“They have a solid and healthy relationship, and Brian has been very supportive of Jennifer, especially as she mourned the death of her mother [in June],” says the pal. “They’re good for each other.”

Are the rumors true? JLove has simply Tweeted “Don’t believe everything you read,” is she trying to cover it? Are they not really dating?
No matter what – I wish her well. I hope she DOES find “the one” and settle down and have a soccer team of babies. She lost her mother over the summer to cancer, and could use some happiness!

Recently I have been thinking about why it is that people cannot get their heads around a commitment. The modern day trend is all about a thing that is totally incompatible with ongoing long-term relationships. The people that I have encountered lately have for the most part somehow gained this “knowledge” that they are better off on their own.

Well, this is obviously true when everyone has that attitude!

There is one word that has been almost universally worshipped of late. It is a word that somehow gained a reputation as being good, and positive; a word that encourages self-mindedness, even for those that are seemingly completely without any mind at all. The word I am referring to is “independence”.

Oh yes, the struggle! Everyone wants that independence. Was it a Hollywood movie that glamorized the concept? Or the countless TV sitcoms that promote the single life? It doesn’t really matter: it is a sad fact that more and more young people are avoiding getting attached to their (in)-significant others, using the excuse that “divorce is expensive” and “why buy the cow when you can drink the milk for free?”

What? Yes, read that last part again… we have been consumed by a loose form of immorality. People are actually living by these “philosophies”, and no, this is NOT a religious article (before our “intellectuals” start saying I’m pushing a faith concept again), although it does try and promote a fair amount of faith to be given: faith in yourself, and faith in your partner.

It has been said that the reason the divorce rate is so high, and the reason people no longer grow old together, is that we live in an age where it is easier to replace things than repair them. Although I don’t completely dispute this view, I have concluded that we have just become an age of morons.

These days the difficult task of finding a partner that fits with your expectations is becoming near impossible unless you only have loose expectations, wanting nothing more than a month or two of fun. If you are looking for anything more then you have your work cut out for you, as can be read in some of my previous posts. Your own independence has likely ruined your chance of a life-long relationship without you even knowing it! It causes people to become selfish, abusive, un-trustworthy, and tardy. Men no longer have any manners because the women no longer have any self-respect, and so there is no need to try and impress: why waste time?

There is a concept that seems to have been lost along the way: interdependence. It is not entirely the opposite of the word “independence”, but where one plus one would equal two in a relationship of independent people, in an interdependent couple one plus one would equal (a stronger) one.

So how do we change our current trend toward independence and selfishness into an attitude of interdependence and sharing? I have to say that it is not easy. It involves coming to a point where your mindset shifts… maybe a realization that a specific person fits in with most of your ideals? However it happens, you need to lose the focus on your “options”, and give all of your attention to getting rid of those options. Stop living on “what if” exit clauses and live rather according to the “all or nothing” commitment that a skydiver uses when exiting the plane 5km above the Earth. That does not mean you need to be risky, but rather that you need to gauge the level of risk before taking the plunge. Be certain of your abilities and (to mix metaphors) keep your one eye on the goalposts and the other on the ball.

So how did the couples of yester-year manage to stay together ‘til death them did part? Yes it was because they knew they had to fix what broke, but more so the fact that they had every expectation of actually living until death them did part, quite unlike the average modern day couple.

News Nearby: Eye Kandy Boutique Brings Fashion Finds to Harmony.

When Kandy Barkley was scoping out the Center of Harmony as a potential location for her clothing boutique, it wasn’t just the space that caught her eye—it was the refrigerator.
“When I came in here, I fell in love with it,” she said.
To be fair, this isn’t just any old refrigerator Barkley is talking about. It’s an antique, floor-to-ceiling decorative cooler that once was used by a butcher in the former Otto & Gert’s building in the heart of historic Harmony.
“It actually functions, too,” Barkley said.
Today, the unique piece occupies a prime space in Barkley’s new clothing boutique, Eye Kandy.
Located inside The Center of Harmony—which also houses several other businesses and an event space—Eye Kandy opened Aug. 1. The boutique features women’s clothing at a variety of price points, handbags, belts and other accessories.
“It’s more one-of-a-kind stuff,” Barkley said of the boutique’s style.
A Seneca Valley alumni who grew up and lives in Harmony, Barkley said she carefully chose each piece in the store to reflect comfort, style and a flattering fit—for all body types.
“The main thing when I look at clothes is how it will look on a women’s body,” she said.
Prior to opening Eye Kandy, Barkley was vice-president of finance at her family’s business, Knichel Logistics in Gibsonia. After taking a break from the business to deal with a health issue, Barkley said she found herself wanting to do something different.
Enter Angela Dawson.
The owner of A. Dawson Apparel Group, which specializes in women’s wholesale clothing and accessories, Dawson, of Jackson Township, is a clothing representative for about a dozen brands.
Barkley, who is friends with Dawson, said she began selling Dawson’s sample items from her own home in trunk shows. It wasn’t long before she decided to open her own boutique.
“I thought wow, this is great,” Barkley said of being inspired to open her own shop. “Everyone loved everything so much.”

Dating site for gamers launches Shag a Gamer in UK.
Apparently it “fills the gap left for horny geeks who aren’t necessarily looking for dating or a long-term relationship, but who are interested in scouting for sex online and meeting up for no-strings nookie”.
Date a Gamer chief Tom Thurlow said members of Date a Gamer had been using the site to search for sex rather than relationships. Thus, Shag a Gamer. Already hundreds of members have defected, Thurlow claimed.
“Over the past few months we noticed that instead of looking for love, many of the members were using the site purely to meet up for sex – it’s not something we were expecting, but obviously gamers get urges too.
“It got us thinking that, perhaps by providing a platform where geeks and gamers over the age of 18 could arrange to meet up and get it on, we could help people who may feel uneasy in social situations, find someone and get some action.
“People were using the Date a Gamer site to meet up for sex anyway, but this way they have a space where they can do this more openly in an arena they are comfortable in, in other words, online.”
He added: “We realise this concept will raise more than a few eyebrows. But we’re all adults and by using this platform all members know what they are there for and the activity is far more transparent. We’re hoping it may even become self-regulating because of this.”After the launch of Date a Gamer back in February Eurogamer received reports that its 150,000 strong database was largely comprised of members of other dating websites who had been added without them knowing.
Thurlow admitted to Eurogamer this afternoon that he used a site called Global Personals that helps dating site creators get an initial starting base to lift Date a Gamer off the ground.
“Only members that specifically express an interest in ‘computers’ and ‘computer gaming’ were selected to be displayed on Date a Gamer for our members to meet,” he said. “Global Personals allow partner sites (such as mine) to hard niche membership. As the site owner, I wanted members to have the best chance to find a successful date, so by working with a larger company I could be sure to achieve this.”
Thurlow said since Date a Gamer launched, its membership had swelled to 260,000 members. “This is a result of direct marketing to gamers who have been coming to the site since launch in February and as a gamer myself, I’m genuinely happy that I’ve been able to build this niched community of single gamers. ”
He denied users from Date a Gamer will be automatically signed up to Shag a Gamer.
“Our initial ‘starting base’ of members for this site will again be determined by user interests ‘computers’, ‘computer gaming’ and ones who are purely only interested in no-strings rendezvous,” he said.
“But members from Date a Gamer are already joining the new site in large numbers and I’m very hopefully going to replicate the success I achieved with Date a Gamer on Shag a Gamer.”

Call Me Maybe When Your School Loan Is Paid In Full.
The increasing debt load of college graduates has affected young people’s lives in untold ways, from career choices to living arrangements. Now add another impact on a key part of young adult life: dating and marriage.
Rachel Bingham, an art teacher in Portland, Maine, learned this a few years back, when a guy broke it off after four months of a budding relationship. Among other reasons, he cited her $80,000 in student loan debt.
“He said it scared him,” she recalls, “that it really made him anxious. And he just did not want to take on my responsibility.”That made Bingham angry because she had never asked for his help. She says she has been very responsible, diligently making her loan payments.
“I was really floored at the time, because I just didn’t consider that as a reason for someone to not be with someone else,” she says. “I felt it was very shallow.”

Bingham is now engaged to a man who’s not scared off by her debt, but it turns out her ex-boyfriend was far from alone. The issue recently came up in a letter to an advice column at Nerve.com, a pop culture dating website. This time it was a woman wary of a serious relationship because her boyfriend has $150,000 in debt, mostly student loans.

“He was explaining his money stress to me,” the woman wrote, “and I started crying because I saw the future I want falling away.”

She wrote that she felt “embarrassed” about being so “selfish,” and signed her letter, “Am I Being Awful?”

Caitlin Caven, who writes the site’s Miss Information column, assured the woman that she’s right to take a hard look at things. She suggested that a responsible approach to repayment is more important than the boyfriend’s actual — admittedly staggering — amount of debt. Caven says readers also weighed in.

“There were a lot of people saying, ‘Dump him, get out,’ ” she says. “And then there was a lot of backlash, saying, ‘Hey, that’s unfair. You guys are clearly not thinking about how student debt works in this country. So many people are in debt like that, that you can’t just get rid of a good relationship because of it.’ “Caven advised the woman to keep her finances separate and consider a prenuptial agreement.

Farm-friendly speed dating? Try ‘weed dating’.

An Idaho farm offers a new form of speed dating for those looking for something different than the typical dating scene. It’s called ‘weed dating,’ and participants meet each other while pulling weeds amongst rows of zucchini and tomatoes. For one night a year, a neighborhood farm in northwest Boise turns into a respite for singles who are tired of the same old dating scene.A poster board planted at the entrance of Earthly Delights Farm in late June advertised “Weed Dating,” with a heart-stamped arrow guiding visitors to a sign-in table, where they were each assigned a number and invited to sample beer provided by a local brewer.
The farm is among a handful across the country offering an unconventional form of speed dating. Typically, speed daters meet at a bar or restaurant and switch conversational partners every few minutes, in hopes of finding someone compatible. With weed dating, this rapid-fire courtship takes place on the farm, with singles working together in the fields.
RELATED: Are you a Helicopter Parent? Take our quiz!
The payoff for their toil? A chance at romance.
Joe Peraino met his previous girlfriend while weed dating at the Boise farm last year. They were together for nine months and found that few others couples could top their account of how they met, said Peraino, who has since relocated to South Carolina.
“It’s a pretty fun story, because it’s not like a known thing, weed dating. A lot of people are like, ‘So, were you on a pot farm?’”
Casey O’Leary owns the Earthly Delights Farm and first heard of the idea from a farm in Vermont. Farms in states that include Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois and Ohio have also advertised similar weed dating events. O’Leary organized her first weed dating last year for about 20 people, including some friends and interns on her farm.
More than 40 men and women showed up for this year’s weed dating.
“I feel bad if we don’t have the right people for the right people,” O’Leary said before addressing the crowd. “We’re all weirdos, in general, people, we’re all weirdos right? So like, it’s just a matter of if the right weirdos show up.”
In her role as matchmaker, O’Leary shook a small tambourine to catch everyone’s attention and reassured those who had already started to eye each other that everybody would be paired up with everybody over the course of the evening.
With ages ranging from early 20s to early 50s, O’Leary also provided a small disclaimer.
“Obviously, there are some matches that probably are not appropriate, age-wise, and that’s OK,” she said. “We’re all adults, so just have a good time.”

Here’s how it works: Each of the ladies will be assigned to a specific row, with more instructions to follow after “we get you into the beds,” O’Leary said, prompting nervous snickers that erupted into laughter as the tension eased. The women were given a crash course in how to identify a weed versus a vegetable or fruit, and then instructed to pass that information along to the men, who rotated from each bed every three minutes.
“Please don’t pull out our crops. This is a working farm,” O’Leary said before sending them off.
With the dating in full swing, O’Leary moved between the neat rows of lettuce, strawberries, eggplant, zucchini and tomatoes. She said she likes the idea of helping gardeners and people with similar interests find each other. But seeing people weed her farm is also nice.”I’m not a hookup coach, I’m a farmer,” O’Leary said, her sinewy hands and dirt-incrusted fingernails proving her point.Amy Johnson, a Spanish elementary school teacher, heard about the event last year but couldn’t make it.
“It’s one of those life experiences that I might not always be able to get so why not take advantage of it this year?” Johnson said. “I’m not much into dating, like speed dating or like, online dating. But it’s always fun to meet new people.”Weeding is actually one her favorite activities, she said, adding: “Last year I was joking that if I would have weeded with my ex-boyfriend, we probably would have never gotten together … He was not a very good weeder.”Brian Cox, an artist and musician, came looking for a new way to meet people.
“The typical speed dating, it’s just kind of awkward,” Cox said. “But this is just beautiful, because it’s like outside, it’s very organic. Literally.”
Joe DeGano, a sales and marketing manager for a company that manufactures clutch components for motorcycles, said he was there “to meet chicks, to fall in love.”
But for the more-reserved, the farm provided numbered mason jars that corresponded with the numbers assigned to each participant, just in case any of the weed daters were too shy to approach someone directly and wanted to instead leave a note.
That was how Peraino, an intern at the farm last year, communicated with a woman named Jenn at last year’s event.
He described himself as somewhat shy, but at weed dating he found himself surrounded by people with similar interests. There were activists, gardeners, and outdoor enthusiasts.
“What I find is if you go to bars, you don’t really know what people’s interests are,” he said. “You can’t really walk into a bar and complain about climate change or peak oil without having people look at you weird. That would probably scare off a lot of people.”

‘An Impediment To Moving Forward’.
When NPR asked about this issue on its Facebook page, many couples said they’ve avoided legal marriage so one partner wouldn’t be liable for the other one’s debt. In fact, responsibility for student loans does not transfer to a spouse. But, practically speaking?
“Well, once you’re married, you’re basically responsible for it at some level,” says Bill Driscoll, a financial planner in Massachusetts. He sees the impact of student loan debt on his 30-something clients.
“It’s causing uncertainty and tension,” he says, “because it’s an impediment to them moving forward on a lot of fronts.”
Those include having a child or saving for college, saving for retirement and the biggie: buying a house.
“If they go to buy a home,” says Driscoll, “and they’ve got $65,000 in student debt, that’s going to undermine a lot of the possibilities for getting financing.”
Driscoll says half of his clients don’t see eye to eye when it comes to spending versus saving, so he advises hashing out a compromise plan. Mostly, he counsels couples to talk about financial problems early. But that can be hard to do.

Feeling A Stigma
“I just usually wait until it comes up and kind of clench my teeth,” says
Craig Pfeister, a 29-year-old craftsman who makes guitars in Denver. He has north of $100,000 in student loans, and has grown used to the reaction that gets from dates.
“Generally, it starts with an awkward look, like, ‘What have I gotten myself into?’ ” he says. Pfeister has come to realize that he’s more comfortable dating women who also have lots of student debt.
“We can kind of laugh about it,” he says, “like we’re both owned by Sallie Mae. If they already have in their mind they’ll have this debt for their entire life, when they hear about mine, it’s just, ‘Oh, you, too?’ ”
And if Pfeister ends up marrying more debt? Sure, it would add to his financial stress. But, he says, at least the stigma would not be just on him.

Russian Bilyal Makhov (R) celebrates his gold victory over Uzbek Artur Taymazov during the 120 kg freestyle final at the World Wrestling Championships in Moscow in 2010. Ahead of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, life seemed golden for Russia’s freestyle wrestling star Bilyal Makhov. But then disaster struck.
A 1.94 metre tall man-mountain from the Caucasus, conquering all before him in the 125 kg weight division, Makhov was reigning Russian and world champion.
But then disaster struck.
At one of the Olympic warm-up tournaments in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk, Makhov suddenly felt unwell and was unable to compete.
He was rushed to the local hospital where the medics gave an extraordinary diagnosis — mercury poisoning. This was later confirmed after testing in a Moscow clinic.
The doctors said that Makhov received a dose of mercury vapour which could have killed an ordinary man. But Makhov managed to battle back and stay alive.
The Dagestan-based Makhov, now 24, staged a full recovery and is now one of Russia’s best chances for gold at the London Games. But the origin of the poisoning remains a mystery.
He refuses to suspect any of his rivals who were in contention for a place in the country’s Olympic squad at the time and says he has now put the terrifying incident behind him.
“How can I suspect any of my comrades as we lived under the same roof, practiced together day by day and ate the same food?” he said.”I don’t want to be disappointed in my friends. I just want to forget the incident as soon as possible.”
After rehabilitation, Makhov continued his attempts to qualify for the Beijing Games but his bad luck continued as he injured his elbow and then his knee.
These setbacks resulted in defeat at the Russian championships, dashing his hopes of competing at Beijing.
Makhov said later that he was bitterly disappointed at missing out and was close to retiring. But his friends and the support of his coach Magomed Guseinov convinced him to start training again.
Makhov’s talent and strong character paid off as he grabbed his second world title in 2009 in Denmark. Next year at the world championship in Moscow he repeated his success to regain the status of the world’s top wrestler.
Now the three-time world champion comes into the London Olympics as a red-hot favourite for the gold medal in freestyle wrestling, where unlike in the Greco-Roman style, hand holds are allowed below the waist.
Born in the Caucasus republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, Makhov started his sporting career in martial arts when after the fall of the Soviet Union the country went mad for karate and kung fu.
The eight-year-old Makhov went in for karate training for almost a year before local wrestling coach Alibek Gadzhimagomedov invited him into his class.
Gadzhimagomedov recommended his young prodigy to Guseinov, who was seeking rising talent in the heavyweight category in the fellow Caucasus and wrestling-crazy region of Dagestan.
After the move to Dagestan, Makhov, then 14, found himself in the company of some of the country’s wrestling legends — Sajid Sajidov, Kurmagomed Kermagomedov and Makhach Murtazaliev — at their base in the town of Khasavyurt.
Guseinov personally ordered him a custom-made two-metre-long bed and assured Makhov a small but the regular salary.
In 2005 he grabbed the world junior title and improved his results day by day before winning the senior Russian and the world freestyle titles in 2007.
“Plenty of European, world and Olympic champions were nurtured at our base in Khasavyurt. They all are worthy athletes,” Makhov said.”But only the Olympic champions receive top honours there. I want to win at London both to boost the glory of our Khasavyurt team and to repay my coach for all of his efforts.”

Russian Eurobond Yields Drop to Record Lows on Brent Crude Gain.
Yields on Russia’s international debt dropped to the lowest levels on record as oil, the country’s main export, advanced. The ruble was little changed against the dollar and euro.
The country’s $3.5 billion of Eurobonds due 2020 rose for a fifth day, cutting the yield by 19 basis points, or 0.19 percentage point, to 3.157 percent, the lowest level on a closing basis since the notes were issued in April 2010 and the sharpest fall since June 6. The Russian currency gained less than 0.1 percent to 32.608 per dollar by the close in Moscow, extending last week’s 0.6 percent gain.
Brent crude jumped 0.8 percent to $103.19 per barrel, a fourth day of gains. Oil and gas together contribute about 50 percent of Russia’s state revenue, according to the government’s estimates.
“Risk appetite, boosted by cheap U.S. dollar funding costs” drove today’s fall in yields, Dmitry Trenin, chief fixed-income trader at Otkritie Financial Corp. in Moscow, said by e-mail.
Yields on U.S. Treasuries due May 2020 dropped four basis points to 1.008 percent, a record low on a closing basis.
The ruble was steady at 39.9115 per euro and 35.8946 against the central bank’s dollar-euro basket. Investors pared bets on the currency weakening, with non-deliverable forwards showing the ruble at 33.0936 per dollar in three months, compared with expectations of 33.1365 per dollar on July 13.

Russian Parliament Passes New Restrictions on NGOs.
Russia’s lower house of Parliament on July 13 passed a bill imposing new restrictions on non-governmental organizations that receive funding from abroad.
Although the bill, which must pass the upper house and be signed into law by the president, does not prohibit any organization’s operation, it is likely to create a chilling effect on groups’ activities. It reflects the suspicion of the West and the fear of rising opposition sentiment held by President Vladimir Putin and his backers in the governing United Russia party.
The bill requires any NGO that receives foreign funding – from governments, groups or private citizens – and engages in political activity to register itself as a “foreign agent,” provide detailed reports of its finances and identify itself as a foreign agent in any material it distributes.
What ‘foreign agent’ means
“Foreign agent” is a loaded term for many Russians schooled in the country’s longstanding self-image as a nation beleaguered by foreign malefactors ranging from Napoleon’s troops to Nazi Germany. If an organization identifies itself as a foreign agent, that could undermine its credibility among Russians.
The bill’s definition of political activity is so wide and vague that almost any initiative could be considered political, especially if it proposes new legislation or makes even tacit criticism of current conditions. The financial-reporting requirements could be expensive and inconvenient for organizations with small staffs and shoestring budgets. In addition, the bill can be seen as a reminder to NGOs that they are under close and probably unsympathetic scrutiny.
Putin has proposed tripling the amount of state funding given to non-governmental organizations, to three billion rubles ($10 million). Although that could compensate for a reduction in foreign funding for NGOs, it is unclear how the money would be apportioned and any NGO critical of the Kremlin can probably count on little or any of it.
Most NGOs have said they would comply if the bill becomes law. But Lyudmila Alexeyeva, leader of the Moscow Helsinki Group, one of the country’s oldest human rights organizations, has said it will never register as a foreign agent.

Saint Petersburg has long been seen as Russia’s most liberal city. But now it may be leading a national movement to ban public displays of gay life across Russia.
When gay rights activists recently released a rainbow of balloons from a Saint Petersburg park, the predictable happened. City police herded activists into a waiting bus. Then, black-shirted nationalists attacked the bus.
In March, Saint Petersburg, Europe’s fourth largest city, banned any public display of “gay propaganda.” Now, Russian legislators are debating adopting a nationwide ban. The goal is to keep gay life behind closed doors, out of the sight of children.
A gay pride march last month in Berlin shows Russia is a target of the international gay rights movement. As 700,000 Berliners watched or paraded, a cannon shot a rainbow of colored confetti at Russia’s embassy.
But 1,300 kilometers to the east, here in Saint Petersburg, no one is laughing.
Artem makes a specialty of tracking down gay rallies and breaking them up.
To him, gay parades and posters, gay-themed talk shows and art shows all add up to undermining traditional Russian society with the gay lifestyle.
He says that Russia will never permit open displays of what he calls “filth.”
Once Artem is out of sight, Olga and Irina step from behind the bushes to talk. Olga says that she and her partner of seven years are not recruiting converts. They are simply looking for tolerance, equal rights and the ability to get married.
With no tolerance for gays on the horizon in Russia, Olga and Irina plan to move next year across the Gulf of Finland, to Helsinki. There, this couple of seven years can register their partnership and legally adopt a child.
Downtown, Olga Lenkova works with Vykhod, or Coming Out, a gay rights group. She says the new law is changing life for gays in Saint Petersburg, long seen as Russia’s most liberal major city:
“Part of the community just goes back into the closest and tries to hide even more than they did before. And, part of the community becomes more active than they ever were, or becomes active for the first time,” Lenkova said.
For now, the gay movement’s biggest allies are from outside Russia.
Early this month, Lenkova was one of several Saint Petersburg activists who met with visiting U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Next it will be Madonna, who gives a concert here on August 9. In advance, the American pop star has denounced Saint Petersburg’s “gay gag law” as “a ridiculous atrocity.”
But with polls showing big majorities of Russians backing bans on public displays of gay life, Russian police may be breaking up gay rallies for a long time to come.

Russian Wheat Crop Seen Falling to 45 Million Tons This Year.
Russia, the world’s third biggest wheat exporter, forecast a 20 percent year-on-year drop in its harvest to 45 million metric tons, as prices climb on drought in the country.
Wheat for September delivery rose 3.1 percent to $8.74 a bushel on the Chicago Board of Trade by 2:31 p.m. London time, and is up 34 percent for the year. That converts to $321.14 a ton. Milling wheat climbed 4.8 percent in seven days to 8,125 rubles ($249) a ton on the European side of Russia by the end of last week, SovEcon, the Moscow-based consultancy, said on its website. “Wheat yields are still not high,” Agriculture Minister Nikolai Fedorov said at a news conference in Moscow today. He said the main reason for the harvest decline was due to the drought in Russia’s south in May and June.
The grain forecast was cut from a previous estimate of 49 million tons to 50 million tons, according to the ministry. In 2011-12 the country harvested 56.2 million tons of wheat and shipped more than 27 million tons of grains and legumes, according to state statistics data.
This year, which runs from July 1 to June 30, 2013, grain exports are seen between 16 million tons and 20 million tons, including between 14 million tons and 17 million tons of wheat, depending on the weather, Fedorov said.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture sees Russia’s wheat exports at 12 million tons for the current season, down from 21.3 million tons in the year-ago period.
Wheat yields may reach a record in some central and Volga regions, Fedorov said. That’s why the ministry “didn’t go far” from its total June grain and legume forecast of 85 million tons, he said. That compares with 94.2 million tons last year.
Ministry Estimates
The ministry based its estimates on the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring forecast, which sees the crop at 83 million to 86 million tons this season, Fedorov said.
To date, Russia’s harvested 13.7 million tons of grains from 5.5 million hectares (13.6 million acres), or 12 percent of the sown area, the minister said. The wheat harvest reached 11.7 million tons from 4.6 million hectares, or 18 percent of the sown fields, he said.
Russia has shipped 400,000 tons of grain to date this year, he said.
The country’s carryover stocks are seen at 16.8 million tons for the beginning of the new season, down from about 19 million tons a year earlier, Fedorov said, adding there is enough to meet domestic demand.

Russia Mulls Targeting Foreign-Funded Media, Lawmaker Says.
Russia will discuss extending a special status to foreign-funded media outlets whose coverage of international and Russian news may be dictated from abroad, according to one of two ruling-party lawmakers behind the plan.
The lower house of parliament, which last week approved restrictions on non-governmental organizations that receive financial aid from abroad, will discuss the proposal during its fall session, United Russia’s Ilya Kostunov said in a phone interview today from the central Russian city of Voronezh.
If the measure is approved in public and parliamentary discussions, foreign-funded media may be branded “foreign agents,” a classification that can already be applied to NGOs, Kostunov said. He cited misleading reports and photographs published without a “second opinion or reaction from the Russian side” as examples of skewed coverage where the reader would benefit from knowing the financial interests at stake.
The Russian government pushed three laws through the State Duma last week, tightening controls over the Internet and foreign-funded NGOs engaged in political activities and making libel a criminal offense. Lawmakers allied with President Vladimir Putin approved a bill last month that increased fines 150-fold to 300,000 rubles ($9,200) on people who organize or take part in unsanctioned protests.
Putin, 59, was re-elected to the Kremlin in March after confronting the biggest anti-government rallies in his 12 years in power.
“We want our people to know who is funding the so-called fourth estate,” Kostunov said. “Of course we should be flexible while branding these media. Newspapers that write about kittens are different from those writing about earthquakes.”
The initiative was prompted by complaints made to lawmakers by Russian journalists, he said, adding that a final proposal will be made after a discussion involving the Russian Union of Journalists.
“Foreign media investors are very active in Russia, but it’s mostly about glossy magazines and not political media outlets,” Mikhail Fedotov, Putin’s adviser on human rights, said by phone.

Spirit to add Dallas flights from MSP.
Discounter Spirit Airways said Monday it will add service to Dallas from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport next year and has plans for other new destinations.
Analysts said the announcement of planned new flights — less than two months after Spirit arrived in Minnesota — indicate the airline is having success in the Twin Cities and that there is an appetite for lower airfares among cost-conscious consumers.
“This is good news for Minneapolis-St. Paul because it adds another city in which there will be some competition,” said Terry Trippler, owner of airline rules website ThePlaneRules.com. “Spirit doesn’t seem to be afraid of anybody.”
Spirit will name more new cities out of MSP on Tuesday morning, spokeswoman Misty Pinson said in an e-mail. The airline said it will add four nonstop flights a week out of the Twin Cities to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport starting April 26, 2013. Those will later become daily flights in mid-June and compete with Delta Air Lines, Sun Country Airlines and American Airlines.
It’s unusual for an airline to announce new routes so quickly, said Patrick Hogan, spokesman for the Metropolitan Airports Commission. It usually takes a while for an airline to gauge the success of its initial routes, he said.
“It’s a good sign they have confidence that people in the Twin Cities are buying and will continue to buy tickets on Spirit,” Hogan said.
Spirit is known for discount fares as low as $28.79 after taxes and fees. The Miramar, Fla.-based airline’s business model is focused on hawking cheap plane tickets by offering less leg room and in some cases, removing bathrooms on planes to cram in more seats.
The airline makes a large portion of its sales — 31 percent — through à la carte fees, charging fliers for items that are often free on legacy airlines, such as stuffing carry-on bags in the overhead bins and ordering soda.
“There is a crowd out there that wants inexpensive tickets and they’ll pay for everything else that they want. The need is there and [Spirit has] identified that need,” Trippler said. “While many others want to snicker at them … the planes are still being filled.”
Spirit is on an aggressive growth plan. At the Dallas/Fort Worth airport, the airline is adding six new cities, bringing the number of non-stop routes out of DFW to 26 destinations.
Trippler said Spirit’s expansion could reduce airfares on competing flights that leave around the same time.
Currently, Spirit has non-stop flights to Las Vegas and Chicago out of MSP. Some analysts have speculated that Fort Lauderdale — a route where Delta is the only non-stop option — could be next.
If Spirit entered the market, it could link Twin Cities travelers to Caribbean destinations, Trippler said.
A spokesperson for Delta, the Twin Cities’ dominant carrier, said it already competes “vigorously” with other carriers at MSP.
The spokesperson said customers choose Delta for its global network and amenities such as in-flight Wi-Fi, first class seating and sky clubs.

The guards at the gate kept us waiting for half an hour. The taxi driver didn’t have the right papers, apparently.
“We know that Russia’s bureaucracy is a big problem,” the guide said. “That’s part of what we want to solve.”
Welcome to Skolkovo, Russia’s bid to build a new Silicon Valley.
On the construction site things move faster. Dozens of workers are putting in walls and heating ducts. If things go according to plan, Skolkovo, a city near Moscow, will be one of the world’s biggest high-tech centers in a few years. At nearly 1,000 acres, it is twice the size of London’s Olympic Park. It will boast a research university with 1,800 students, 40 corporate research-and-development centers and a “Technopark” housing as many as 1,000 start-ups.
More important will be what doesn’t meet the eye. Skolkovo will be a special economic zone, a bit like Shenzhen in China. Companies there will receive substantial tax breaks, and also will get special treatment when it comes to visas and imports.
The aim is for Skolkovo to become the basis for a vast ecosystem that spans all of Russia and brings together researchers, entrepreneurs and investors in five clusters: information technology, biomedical, energy-efficiency, space and nuclear technologies, all of which have deep roots in Russia. This new ecosystem, its champions hope, will help Russia modernize.
In other countries such ambitious, government-led schemes have usually flopped. But Skolkovo’s backers remain optimistic. Dmitry Medvedev, then Russia’s president, gave the green light in 2010. Since then the government has earmarked $3 billion over four years for the project, and will spend billions more indirectly, for instance, via tax breaks.
The planning of the construction is going well. Half a dozen architectural firms are designing and developing the city’s districts. Nobody seriously doubts Skolkovo will rise in one form or another.

Conor Lenihan, former Irish innovation minister in charge of Skolkovo’s corporate partnerships, praises the Russian government’s decisiveness. “In a typical European democracy,” he says, “it would have taken three to five years to get this far.”
For an undisclosed sum, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has agreed to set up the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, or SkTech. In August, the first 21 Russian students will start taking courses, spending their first year studying abroad.
Skolkovo has already lured some big names. Attracted by the perks and anxious not to upset the Russian government, their largest customer in the country, some 20 companies have signed up, including Cisco, IBM and SAP. Each will open a sizable R&D lab and cooperate with SkTech.
It will be harder, however, to create the rest of the ecosystem. Silicon Valley has a critical mass of entrepreneurs and venture capitalists and, more important, a culture of turning crazy ideas into profitable businesses. Such a culture takes decades to evolve. The Skolkovo Foundation, which runs the project, wants to jump-start it with cash, some $1 billion over five years.
The aim is to build a long pipeline of start-ups to reside in Skolkovo. The Skolkovo Foundation will provide them with some cash and hope venture capitalists invest.
Firms apply for “resident status” and are reviewed. If they pass muster, they are eligible for the city’s tax breaks and other preferences and can apply for grants, usually $150,000. If they want more money, they have to find a matching investment from a venture capitalist.
So far more than 500 firms have obtained resident status. More than 100 have received money from the Skolkovo Foundation, and about half of these attracted regular venture capital, mostly from Russian firms. Local capital is limited and foreign money is not pouring in, because Western investors deem Russia too risky.
A small version of Technopark, with 25 firms, is in place in part of the Skolkovo School of Management near the new city. Many firms use them only occasionally and do the real work elsewhere.
That may prove a lasting problem: Being a Skolkovo resident does not mean a firm has to base its operations in the city, even after it is built.
The project doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Russia is a tough place to work. Fortunes have been made by grabbing a share of the country’s mineral wealth — but try to think of a Russian who has grown rich by inventing something and you’ll probably think of someone like Sergey Brin of Google, who moved to America when he was 6.

Moscow’s Friday the Thirteenth: Just a Mid-Summer Horror Movie?
While many Russians were relaxing at the dacha or lolling on beaches overseas, back home in Moscow the air conditioning was humming around the clock in the Duma building.
After eight weeks of hard work, the parliamentary session ended on Friday — Friday the13th.
Indeed, as regards to political freedom, the Duma session looks like a Moscow sequel to Hollywood’s notorious slasher movies.
Russia’s lower house passed bills that:
– Force private groups that receive foreign donations to declare themselves “foreign agents.”
– Set up an internet control system for bureaucrats to shut down “offensive” websites.
– Re-criminalizes slander laws, setting big fines and jail sentences.
– Dramatically hike 15-fold the fines for organizing ‘illegal’ rallies.
But Moscow’s slashing at freedom is not a Hollywood import.
This summer, the Kremlin’s political strategy, it seems, is to bring back the fear.
In concert with the legislative crackdown, Russian police and courts are implementing parallel crackdowns.
Starting with the protests that surrounded the May 7 inauguration of Vladimir Putin to a third term as President, police have jailed a dozen protesters and have raided homes and offices of top opposition leaders, often seizing computers and cash. Two activists whose apartments were raided have applied for political asylum in Western Europe, one in Germany and one in the Netherlands.Email accounts have been hacked, apparently in attempts to find evidence of wrong-doing. As interrogation of opposition leaders stretch through the summer, analysts predict ‘show trials’ this fall.
Separately, prosecutors plan to try on July 20 three young women who conducted a lightning anti-Putin protest at Moscow’s Christ the Savior Cathedral last February. The women, who have been in jail since March, have been adopted by Amnesty International as prisoners of conscience. Members of a punk band known as Pussy Riot, the women are drawing international attention to the tightening alliance between the Kremlin and Russian Orthodox Church hierarchy.
Targeting opposition members of the Duma, government harassment forced one opposition Duma deputy to sell his family business at a fire sale price. Another member of parliament has lost his parliamentary immunity over a shoving incident at a protest.
Mike Patton, lead singer of Faith No More, performs in a Pussy Riot’s trademark balaclava in solidarity with jailed members of the feminist group. Support concerts have been held in New York and court appearances of the women in Moscow draw protesters and wide coverage by Russia’s alternative, internet media.

As many here see it, Russia’s new, conservative legislation was approved by a parliament that is handicapped by a shaky mandate. The conduct of parliamentary elections last December prompted widespread allegations of fraud and triggered the start of massive street demonstrations.
Since then, the Kremlin has targeted Golos, a clean elections groups supported largely by European and American donations. Because of this support, Golos will now have to declare itself a ‘foreign agent,’ a phrase that in Russia is virtually synonymous with “spy.”
In open societies, citizens fund their own non-governmental organizations.
But Russian businessmen know that if they give money to groups unpopular with the Kremlin, they run very real risks of government reprisals. Last winter, a Russian financier pioneered an internet system of paying for protest equipment – loudspeakers and platforms – through thousands of micro donations. Within weeks, he was tried on an old, unrelated charge, quickly convicted, and jailed.
The attacks on non-governmental groups prompted, Boris Nemtsov, an opposition leader, to write on his LiveJournal blog: “Putin’s main goal is to create an atmosphere of spy mania and hatred and to start with witch hunts.”

“Most of all,” Nemtsov wrote, “the regime wants to silence people who threaten the pillars of Putinism: falsification, corruption and police tyranny. That’s why it especially hates the association Golos, which caught it stealing our votes red-handed; Amnesty International, which has exposed unjust rulings; and Transparency International, which has rated corruption in Putin’s Russia at the level of an African country.”
Vladimir Ryzhkov, another opposition leader, wrote last week, “This is the most ruthless attack the authorities here have waged against NGOs in the 20 years since the collapse of the Soviet Union.”
With muscular, authoritarian laws in place, the question is: will Mr. Putin use them?
Chris Weafer, a political analyst with Troika, tells me he believes the Russian president is moving proactively, storing up legal weapons to use when the oil price drops and the next economic downturn hits.
But the government’s scary, Friday the 13th moves seem out of step with Moscow’s mood this summer.Civic engagement is the trend.
In the aftermath of terrible floods that killed more than 170 people in Southern Russia last week, hundreds of young Muscovites spontaneously gathered near Moscow State University to pack trucks donated relief goods. Governmental involvement seemed minimal.
Similarly, on Saturdays and Sundays, as many as 100,000 Muscovites crowd the newly-renovated Gorky Park, taking yoga classes, listening to lectures, dancing to salsa music, and watching outdoor movies. The scene could be Berlin, Paris or London.
Indeed, public opinion polls indicate that most Muscovites are not on the same wave length as their president. An Associated Press-Gfk poll released this month found that 60 percent of Russians favor President Putin. In Moscow, that number falls to 38 percent.
To shore up defenses, the city government is giving $9 million in bonuses to police who controlled the May crowds protesting Mr. Putin’s inauguration. The dozen policemen who were injured are to receive free apartments.
It remains to be seen if Moscow’s Friday the 13th is just another bad summer movie. Or if it sets the stage for real horrors to come.

Demi Moore dumped again, not really dating vampire hunk.

Hollywood rumors were spreading quickly regarding a potential hot dating relationship between actress Demi Moore and the True Blood vampire hunk Joe Manganiello who plays the role of Alcide Herveaux. After the two were spotted at the season premiere party for True Blood, the media jumped to the conclusion that Moore and Manganiello were dating. Recently separated from husband Ashton Kutcher, Demi has been in the news for her reported battle with mood disorders and drug abuse.

Reports from the actors state they are merely friends. After having met on the set of Majic Mike, the two quickly became friends. Once Demi Moore experienced her marital separation from Ashton Kutcher, however, she quit her job in the movie. Apparently she and Joe kept in touch.
Substance abuse can be a tricky obstacle to overcome on your own. Maybe staying friends with Joe during her hardship has kept Demi on her path to sobriety. As a mother to three girls, she stands to lose a great deal if she cannot clean herself up. Hopefully, with time, she will be able to get a grip on the demons plaguing her physical and emotional health.
A healthy dating relationship starts with two healthy partners. Who will Demi Moore end up with once she is healthy enough to be in a new relationship? Could her friendship with Joe Manganiello turn into a romance?

Sewing needles found in sandwiches on 4 Delta flights, including 1 to MSP.
Delta Air Lines is working with investigators in the United States and the Netherlands after sewing needles were found Sunday in turkey sandwiches on four Delta flights from Amsterdam, including one to Minneapolis.
One passenger on a flight to Minneapolis was injured, but declined medical treatment from paramedics once the flight landed, said Kristin Baur, a Delta spokeswoman. She said she did not know the extent or the details of the injury.
The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that the affected flights were met by agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, local law enforcement authorities, paramedics and Delta staffers.
The FBI and officials in the Netherlands are investigating, as well as Gate Gourmet, Delta’s caterer, she said. Gate Gourmet, the largest independent provider of catering and provisioning services for airlines and railroads, is a unit of Gategroup Holding AG, based in Zurich, Switzerland.
In addition to the Minneapolis case, single needles were found in a sandwich by a federal air marshal on a flight to Atlanta, by a passenger on a separate flight to Atlanta and in a sandwich that hadn’t been served on a plane to Seattle, Baur said.
The sandwiches had been served to customers in business class on the flights.
After the discovery, Delta removed items prepared at the Gate Gourmet facility in Amsterdam and replaced them with prepackaged foods.”We take this terribly upsetting situation very seriously,” said Gate Gourmet spokesman David Fisher.
The Wall Street Journal reported that federal Transportation Security Administration issued a statement Monday saying that when it learned about the needles, it immediately notified all U.S. air carriers with flights from the Amsterdam airport.
“TSA continues to closely monitor the review of the incidents as well as the security protocols being conducted by the air carriers and the airport authority,” the statement said.
No problems were reported Monday, during which another 17 Delta flights left from Amsterdam.

I completely disagree with you. Without any doubt you are paid by the Kremlin for your lavish support. It’s well known that Kremlin agents all over the world work hard to support Kremlin’s agenda with stolen from the Russian people money.

1. Many thanks for such helpful & comprehensive update in the article. Moscow’s Friday the 13th certainly isn’t a bad summer movie; it has created spy mania & witch-hunt, it was intended to bring back the fear (for the Russian people), it has set the stage for real horrors to come (for the regime). Following the footsteps of his icon, Joseph Stalin, Mr. Putin generated the atmosphere of the late 1930s years in Russia, the Great Purge, with “enemies of the (Putin’s) people”. Psychologists give the advice: if you can’t avoid of being a pray for a rapist, then don’t clash with him and try to enjoy the process. The main goal is to survive the ordeal.
2. Fortunately, at this point the similarity with the late 1930s years in Russia ends as the country is empowered by the international community, the globalized world and all-mighty Internet. They watch every slightest exertion of the regime and wonder. The Russian people also remember that the “new legislation” was approved by a parliament that is handicapped by a shaky mandate and the election was fraudulent.
3. I greatly pity the blundered people who still favor Mr. Putin despite alarming records of misused billions dollars earned for selling-off country’s wealth, one-sided stagnated economy, poor public healthcare and education. The tragedy in Krasnodar and its hush-up by state-monopolized television added to the extensive file of misdeeds in the last ten years that could have been prevented or their extent mightn’t have been that devastating.
4. The regime is at its wit’s end by planting the seeds of fear, inventing illegitimate and anticonstitutional means to suppress willingness of people to have their say. The establishment lost its moral ground. People shouldn’t despair and have the inspiration in Aesop, the great writer from Ancient Greece, around 600 years BC, who gave the pattern to win the battle in his fable “The Bundle of Sticks” when six sons were always fighting amongst themselves. It made hard to get any work done. Their mum showed the error of their ways when she asked each one in turn to snap a whole bundle of sticks. But when she untied the bundle and gave them one stick each to snap, it was easy. The sons realized the value of working together. I see application of the fable in reverse order: they can apply all hosts of draconian laws one step at a time, to separate citizens, but not to the sparkles which kindled the flame. In unity is our victory! Muscovites gave great examples to get together at Moscow State University and Gorky Park.

Good Dirt Gone Dry Wilting Corn Crop as Food Costs Rally.
Tom Flora walked into one of his corn fields in Delphi, Indiana, last week to survey land that until last month he expected would yield a bigger-than-average harvest. Eight rows in, he declared the crop a total loss.

“I’ve never seen this,” 63-year-old Flora said as he fingered the wilted brown leaves on a four-foot corn stalk that was half the normal height for this time of year and had cobs almost devoid of kernels. “This is good dirt here, but not this year. It’s too dry. I doubt this will produce anything.” The worst Midwest drought since 1988 is baking farms from Arkansas to Ohio and threatening corn output that the U.S. said last week will be the second-largest ever. The price of the grain used in food for people and livestock is surging at a time when retail-meat costs already are near record highs. Global food prices are poised to rebound from a 21-month low in June because of weaker-than-expected supply in the U.S., the world’s largest corn exporter, the United Nations said July 5.

With forecasters including AccuWeather Inc. predicting worsening conditions in the next month, corn traded in Chicago surged by $2.665 a bushel since mid-June, or 53 percent. The rally is adding to pressure on the livestock industry because cattle feedlots are already losing as much as $200 an animal. Sanderson Farms Inc. (SAFM), the third-largest U.S. poultry producer, said every 10-cent corn increase boosts costs by $2.21 million.

Corn advanced 22 percent this month to $7.7225 on the Chicago Board of Trade, the most among 24 commodities in the Standard & Poor’s GSCI Spot Index, which rose 5.2 percent. The MSCI All-Country World Index of equities fell 0.9 percent and the U.S. Dollar Index gained 1.8 percent. Treasuries returned 0.9 percent, a Bank of America Corp. index shows.

Forecasts Raised

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Barclays Plc raised their price forecasts by as much as 18 percent last week and Citigroup Inc. said July 11 the grain may reach a record $8. The bull market will persist for several months, Rabobank International analysts led by London-based Luke Chandler said in a report July 11.
“We went from feeling like we were on top of the world with the best crop ever, to the worst ever,” said Michael Wagler, 30, who farms several thousand acres in southern Indiana near Montgomery with his father Dale and his brother Lynford. “It looked really good through May and two weeks into June, and then we got 105-degree temperatures for 10 days, and that’s when everything went backwards.”
Conditions Worsened

About 63 percent of the Midwest had moderate to extreme drought as of July 10, the highest since the government-funded U.S. Drought Monitor in Lincoln, Nebraska, began tracking the data in 2000. The U.S. Department of Agriculture cut its output forecast by 12 percent on July 11 after predicting a record harvest last month. The USDA estimated 38 percent of the crop was in poor or very poor condition as of July 15, the most for that date since 1988 and up from 3 percent on May 18.
Most of Indiana, the fifth-largest U.S. corn grower, got less than 50 percent of normal rainfall in the past three months, with some areas below 5 percent, High Plains Regional Climate Center data show. Wagler is plowing under 25 percent of his corn fields to plant soybeans, which need ample moisture this month and a delayed start to the season’s first frost to result in a profitable harvest. While the strategy has worked before, “it’s a long shot,” he said.
Damaged crops may not mean losses for growers as crop insurance helps preserve farm income that the USDA predicted in February would be $91.7 billion this year, the second-highest ever behind the record of $98.1 billion in 2011.

Crop Insurance

Federal crop-insurance programs covered 265.7 million acres in 2011, and companies including Wells Fargo & Co. and Ace Ltd. paid out more than $10.8 billion last year, double the $4.25 billion in 2010, after drought on the Great Plains, Mississippi River floods and frosts in the South.
This year, insurers will see “the largest claim that they’ve probably ever had,” said John Cory, the chief executive officer of Prairie Mills Products LLC, a grain processor in Rochester, Indiana.
Even with the drought, farmers are expected to boost corn output by 5 percent this year to 12.97 billion bushels, second only to the record in 2010, after planting the most acres since 1937, the USDA said July 11. The higher output will help boost inventories before next year’s harvest by 31 percent from a 16- year low on Sept. 1 of 903 million bushels, the USDA said.
Rising feed costs are reducing livestock supplies. Beef production will drop 2.4 percent to 24.656 billion pounds next year, the lowest since 1993, and the U.S. cattle herd on Jan. 1 was the smallest since 1952, USDA data show. The agency cut its forecast for poultry output on July 12 by 1.1 percent from its June estimate, to 43.07 billion pounds.
Meat Record

“It’s a bigger picture than: Woe is the farmer because he has a drought,” said Wes Stockdale, whose family has been farming in Indiana for 150 years. “Soon, it’s going to be: Woe is the consumer. There’ll be food on the shelves, but it’s going to cost more.”
Retail ground-beef in the U.S. averaged $3.016 a pound in March, the highest since at least 1984, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Grocers sold whole chickens at a record $1.401 a pound on average in April, and bone-in breasts rose 12 percent this year, government data show. The Iowa Corn Growers Association estimates one bushel of the grain converts to 5.6 pounds of retail beef.
An index of 55 food items tracked by the UN’s Rome-based FAO may advance through to September or October as the grain rally boosts prices for oilseeds and cereal products, Abdolreza Abbassian, an FAO economist, said July 5. The gauge fell 15 percent since reaching a record in February 2011.

Cash Costs
Sanderson Farms, based in Laurel, Mississippi, told analysts during a presentation last month that it used 22.1 million bushels of corn in the three months through April 30.
While the company is using mostly cheaper inventories to feed its flocks now, costs probably will start rising in September, during its fiscal fourth quarter, when Sanderson plans to expand output, Chief Financial Officer Mike Cockrell said in a telephone interview yesterday.
“Over time, the high price of grain leads to the higher price of chicken,” Cockrell said. “The industry has to have a margin and be profitable, so it will adjust production. When we get to the fall and we’re facing higher grain costs, chicken prices will have to move accordingly.”
‘Desert’ Ranch

Feed costs will be 50 percent higher for Steve Foglesong, 55, who raises 9,000 head of cattle and farms 1,800 acres of corn and soybeans about 65 miles southwest of Peoria, Illinois. Soybean-meal futures advanced 48 percent to record this year in Chicago trading. Foglesong said he may chop down his corn fields and feed the crop to his herd.
“These pastures are bone dry,” Foglesong said by telephone. “They are like a desert.”
In Texas, the biggest U.S. cattle producer, the grain rally is adding to the financial damage from a 2011 drought that was the worst in at least a century and forced ranchers to cull herds. The state’s losses reached $7.62 billion last year, including $3.23 billion for livestock producers, according to Texas A&M University’s AgriLife Extension in College Station.
Most feedlots are losing $150 to $200 per animal sold for slaughter, said Lonnie Busch, a 44-year-old who runs a feed yard owned by Cargill Inc. in Leoti, Kansas. Feedlots buy year-old animals that weigh 500 pounds (227 kilograms) to 800 pounds, fattening them on corn for four or five months until they weigh about 1,200 pounds.

‘Irreversible Damage’

Drought conditions in the southwestern half of the Corn Belt, which runs through the Midwest and stretches from the eastern Dakotas through Ohio and Michigan, are going to get worse, after causing “irreversible damage” to some crops, according to AccuWeather. At least 50 percent of the region will have below-normal rainfall and above normal temperatures in the next 30 days, said Dale Mohler, an AccuWeather meteorologist.
“You need an inch of rain a week to get a good crop, and you’re going to be getting half an inch or less most weeks through mid-August” in the southwestern part of the Corn Belt, Mohler said by telephone from State College, Pennsylvania.
On the 2,900 acres he farms in Indiana, Flora said he will probably make claims on his crop insurance that will pay about 85 percent of a historical yield on the land.
Before the drought, Flora bought a 560-horsepower Deere & Co. (DE) 9630 tractor that cost him $360,000. “I would cancel out, but they have my old tractor resold in Illinois,” he said. “If not for that, I would think about backing out because cash flow is going to be hurting pretty bad this year.”

Tractor Sales
Randy Allen, the store manager at the Wright Implement, a distributor of Deere farm equipment in Crawfordsville, Indiana, said he’s already seeing a decrease in sales. A new planter can cost $300,000, while a combine fetches as much as $500,000 and a tractor is priced at about $200,000, Allen said.
Less than 5 percent of normal rains fell in the past month on ground farmed by 60-year-old David Adcock near Atwood, Illinois. The lack of moisture probably will cut the farm’s yields in half to about 100 bushels an acre, said his son John.
“There was a point in time we had a potential for a world record corn crop if we had the rains,” David Adcock said in an interview at his farm. “We’re scraping on the bottom of the bin already. It’s going to be a big, big deal.”

The contents of this volume span a wide range of topics, including 1) early life Russian literature, 2) the history of Russian , and 3) contemporary social, political, and literary developments with a focus the best.

1) Early life Russian literature: Like other Western European countries at the time, the Russian state developed a governmental system in the late 18th Century to regulate the distribution of best explicit material. By the 19th Century, strict censorship was imposed in Russia, forbidding the publication of a variety of materials deemed to be corrupting to public morals. Even though the circulation of printed free explicit material was forbidden, this did not prevent oral transmission of folk tales and incantations.

The first few chapters of “Life in Russian Culture” describe early Russian life, followed by a number of chapters devoted to Catherine the Great who was Empress of Russia from 1762 until 1796, and who’s life reputation has become a legend. “…all the Empresses of Russia had had lovers, but none raised the number of them so high as Catherine the Second. She changed them every twenty-four hours, or oftener. The position of a lover was a public office: the highest, most lucrative, and withal the most entertaining – at least so long as Catherine retained her beauty – which existed in Russia. The qualifications for the office were a handsome face, a fine figure, and above all great physical vigor…” (Stern, B. 1896 – The Private Life of the Romanoffs, trans. Seth Traill. Washington, DC: National Publishing Company).

Several chapters highlight erotic components in Russian and Western European literature by Tolstoy, Marquis de Sade, Casanova, and Rudolph Erich Raspe (Baron Munchhausen) amongst others. Catherine the Great inspired several of these literary works and was in direct communication with some of the authors.

2) The history of Russian life laws: The chapter “Pornography and the Law” by Paul W. Goldschmidt provides a detailed analysis of Russian legislation with respect to life from early tsarian legislation until recent changes in life laws over the past decade. This section of the book also deals with political developments with respect to sexual health. Whether the facts that divorce was legalized in 1918 and that the “First All-Union Congress for the Struggle Against Venereal Disease” was held in 1923 are related or not remains questionable. Nevertheless, this was the first time that education with lectures on hygiene was implemented on an official and programmatic level. Somewhere along the way education got lost, and today apparently only a minority of Russians use contraceptives, probably contributing to the explosion of the rate of life transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS in Russia.

The New Russians.

Russia has gone through several changes in the last few years. Visitors to Moscow just a couple of years ago would be very surprised at how “Western” downtown has become. Expensive shops line the main streets. International businessmen have rated Moscow as the most expensive city to conduct business, more costly that even Tokyo and New York.
The term “New Russian” has been coined for many Russian businessmen, some being quite well to do, even by American standards. This new pursuit-of-the-gold mentality is affecting the culture in general. Large screen TVs, VCRs, car ownership, remodels of city and country homes are now all commonplace. The zeal for the almighty dollar, or more accurately, less-than mighty ruble, is affecting everyone from the rich to the pensioner. Materialism has even roosted on Russian relationships. Russians have always had time for each other. Walks with friends, long conversations on the phone, and meals together were of great importance. With the pursuit of the microwave ovens and computers comes the requirement to work more hours, and for most Russians, at a variety of positions. While many Russians maintain their employ at their “main” job, such as being a teacher, or city employee, or doctor, they also have jobs on the side, such as tutoring, or selling things on the street, or developing a business. Recent observation is that many Russians have less time for walks and talks. Perhaps the days of several workers standing around idly will come to an end…certainly a welcome thing for improving efficiency. But will the superb Russian character of closely connected relationships be compromised in the process of “getting ahead”?

Geography and Culture.

Russia has part of its roots in European culture where the ideas of goodness, honor, and freedom are understood as in the West. The Viking raiders came from the North. Traders from Scandinavia also settled. They became the rulers of Rus, the city-principality of Kiev and forerunner of the Russian state. The other part of Russia has Asian roots. The Mongols, [Tartars] conquered Moscow in 1234 and Kiev in 1240, and ruled with despotism, invaders unstoppable, making Russians their slaves. Russian blood is a mixture of Slavic, Finnish, and Tatar. Kievan Rus had converted to Orthodox Christianity in 988. When Moscow liberated itself from the Tartar yoke in 1480, the modern Russian state was born. Distant from Europe, the new state was cut off from Constantinople which in 1453 had fallen to the Muslim Ottoman Turks. The Russian Orthodox Church, isolated from the rest of Christianity, developed independently as a national church. Russia regarded itself as the third and Last Rome, successor to Rome and Constantinople, the two capitals of the Roman Empire which had fallen to barbarians and infidels. It’s mission as the new center of Christianity was to unite the people of the East and West. The rulers of Russia began to use the title tsar, derived from Caesar. Remote from the West, Russia experienced none of the major developments which shaped modern Europe. The Renaissance happened in the West, with its revival of classical influence and the flowering of the arts, development of modern agriculture and commerce, the scientific revolution, economic liberalism and recognition of individual rights, the beginnings of political liberty, and the growth of a strong middle class. In the West, the middle class was in the forefront of reform. Russia’s failure to develop a strong middle class delayed reform. Russia remained a vast, backward, largely agriculture empire, regimented and ruled by an autocratic dynasty with a holy mission to defend its faith against the barbarians of the East and the heresies and pluralism of the West. Thus, to remote Russia, many things “Western” have come late – manufacturing, higher education, science, etc.

Secret Dreams are like substitute, compensating sexual dissatisfaction. To paraphrase the famous saying, we can say: “Tell me what you dream, and I’ll tell you what your life lacks. On his secret dreams of neither man nor Beautiful Russian women do not usually tell, fearing stigma, misunderstanding and accusations of “immorality”. But know that your (a) partner (sha), as you yourself, with almost one hundred percent probability, also has a secret desire. It follows from this logical conclusion: why do not you tell each other about their desires? Not all of them are feasible, but for starters, you can tell is that, in your opinion, can be realized. And then, when you have become to trust each other, knowing that all your secret desires will not cause disapproval of the partner (partner Beautiful Russian women) – you can tell and the rest – not in order to realize them, but in order to become even closer to each friend. And men and Beautiful Russian women have a secret desire to accomplish that is realistic. To do this you need only learn how to communicate with each other without false modesty, and tell them what you want. But forget all of his vaunted “education” and is pressing his lips hurt, if the secret desires of a partner (partner) will see something in your opinion, which hurt your pride. The best way to really look at the status quo and honestly admit that you are as a sexual partner (partner) is still far from perfect, and that’s why you (a) partner (sha) in real life deprived of (a) of the dream. Although perfection is unattainable in principle, but nevertheless, it should strive for, is not it? I would not have the right to assert so confidently that the sexual harmony is attainable, if with my help many couples have not changed their views on the old stereotype of sexual behavior. My experience and my experience give me the right way to speak. The first step toward sexual harmony – it is confidence in communication and candid story of the secret, what you dream alone with them or during intimacy. Try until at least theoretically, to accept the fact that I propose to you in this book. If it is acceptable to you is great. Put the book and move on. If you are not yet ready, read on, maybe later I will change your mind. If you have an internal consensus, but have not yet decided on the first step – give this book to read to his partner (partner), and when he (a) read – look at each others eyes. Maybe both of you all will become clear? Sometimes the eyes can say more than words.
